Though a court on Monday remanded the property owner and manager of the four-storey building at north Delhi’s Anaj Mandi where 43 people were killed in a fire on Sunday to 14-day police custody, a judgment passed in January this year shows how another court had red-flagged the grim situation of rampant illegal constructions in a south-west neighbourhood that could lead to “devastating” consequences.
