Wide variation in the coronavirus mortality rate among different areas in the city has prompted the BMC to plan a pilot study to dig deeper. An analysis showed case fatality rate (CFR) ranged from 2% to nearly 8% across the 24 civic wards. At least 50% of the wards have a higher CFR than the city’s average of 5.4%. The state’s CFR is 3.3% while the national average is below 2%.
